Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 in Wales
22nd February - 7th March
Theme: This year the theme is ‘The Big Swap.' This year's Fairtrade Fortnight is going to be the most ambitious two weeks yet. The Fairtrade Foundation wants one million and one people to join in The Big Swap. They will be asking the nation swap their usual shopping trolley items for Fairtrade equivalents.
To fit in with their aim of expanding the market for Fairtrade tea there will be particular emphasis on getting people to swap their non Fairtrade tea, for its Fairtrade counterparts. The Women's Institute has joined forces with Traidcraft to call on the "big five" tea companies in the UK to go Fairtrade. For more information visit http://www.makeitfair.org.uk/

In Wales...
In Wales we will be hosting a Fairtrade coffee producer from the Gumutindo coffee cooperative in Mbale, Uganda. To view the producer timetable visit our website at http://fairtradewales.com//news/producer_tour_timetable_2010/1019
We would like to tie into the idea of ‘The Big Swap' by asking every AM to commit to pledging to swap at least one item. This could be their tea and coffee for Fairtrade newbies or olive oil or wine for the more advanced! You can download a bilingual template letter from our website at http://fairtradewales.com//resources/fairtrade_fortnight/787 . We will celebrate these pledges at an event at the Senedd during Fairtrade Fortnight- more details to be announced soon!
